A native of Richmond, Virginia, Kathryn Starke is an urban elementary school reading specialist, literacy consultant, children’s author, educational publisher, keynote speaker, and freelance educational writer. A graduate of Longwood University, she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and her master’s degree in literacy and culture. She is the founder and CEO of Creative Minds Publications and Consulting. Her global educational company exemplifies quality literacy instruction for all children.

Kathryn spends every day motivating children to read, think, and learn. As a former first, second and third grade teacher in an inner city school system, Kathryn believes that motivation and a print rich environment are the two factors needed to promote literacy. She wrote her first book, Amy’s Travels, which is now in its second edition and used in schools on six continents. She was named one of the 50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading in 2013. She always looks forward to sharing her experience, expertise, and passion in literacy education with others.
