Maria Banks is an educator, consultant,
and keynote speaker, coach. She is currently co-authoring the text Integrating PLCs, DI, and RTI (To be published fall 2011 by Corwin Press). Maria has worked with educators and school communities throughout the country.

Her forte is embedded professional development, which provides teachers opportunities to see live lesson demonstration and work in a collaborative fashion to reflect and change teaching practices.

She has experience teaching elementary through college levels. Maria is a Reading/Writing Project Fellow and a former curriculum specialist as well as supervisor for reading, ESL, (English as Second Language) and Library Media. For the past 7 years, Maria has served as a national consultant and adjunct professor.

She serves on the board of Northern Illinois Computing Educators (NICE), has recently been honored as the Illinois Computing Educators (ICE) 2007 Educational Leader of the Year, and ISTE’s 2007 Outstanding Leader of the Year. She has been recognized as a Discovery Educator, was named an Apple Distinguished Educator in 2003, and a recipient of the 2000 State of Illinois Those Who Excel Award of Recognition.
